Tuesday Hill Ride and Happy Hour

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Freshbikes hill ride and the Happy Hour at Vapiano in Ballston.  We gave away $2000 in bike parts from Freshbikes and had a blast.  For those who are not familiar with the hill ride, it is every Tuesday night in the summer.  We leave at 6:30 from Mosaic Park, just behind the bike store.  There are typically 200-300 riders, and there are two options, and A and a B ride.  The A ride is a series of 4-5 race simulation intervals on hilly terrain.  The B ride is a fast but steady pace loop through the hills of Arlington.  Each ride lasts about an hour.  The ride is a mix of bike racers, triathletes, and cycling enthusiasts.  It is open to anyone, and there is bound to be someone else who rides at your pace.

Mosaic Park before the ride.

Caught at a light.  On the first Tuesday of every month, we get a police escort through Ballston and a BBQ with beer and food from Baja Fresh. As you can tell from this photo, we didn't have a police escort tonight.

And of course, the best part of training for a bicycle race is...the drinking.  We headed to Vapiano for drinks and dinner.  We also raffled off more than $2,000 in prizes that were donated by Freshbikes.

Mike Davis of Freshbikes presents the grand prize, an Edge carbon clincher wheel valued at $1600, to Casey Creech of the DC Tri club.  Freshbikes also donated Hutchinson tubeless tires, Mavic tires, Accelerade, and a ton of socks.

They may be the fastest guys on the A ride, but the B riders beat them to the beer and reserved seats.
